Over the weekend, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia took to social media to announce an alternative venue for her book signing after facing a cancellation at the Westgate resort in Kissimmee, Florida, just the night before.

The resort cited lack of awareness regarding the Jan. 6 connection to the event when initially approving the book signing for her latest publication, MTG. The scheduled event, planned for the third anniversary of the riot, offered attendees a chance for a meet-and-greet with the congresswoman.

“Democrats claim they’re saving Democracy, but we all know they’re actually DESTROYING Democracy” Greene posted to X, formerly known as Twitter. “They hate free speech. Plain and simple. That’s why they tried to cancel my book signing. But they failed! The show will go on!!”

The relocated book signing found its new home at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post situated in St. Cloud, Florida, in close proximity to Orlando. Mark Cross, heading the event on behalf of the Osceola County GOP Committee, speculated that Democrats in Orlando might have instigated calls, spreading misinformation about the event’s purpose.

Earlier in the week, Democratic State Representative Anna Eskamani had voiced her disapproval of Greene and the GOP for organizing an event around Jan. 6.

“Just another day in Florida where the local Republican Party in Osceola County is hosting an ‘anniversary’ event to mark January 6th and Marjorie Taylor Greene is the ‘special’ guest,” Eskamani posted on X. “Was really hoping this was a joke when I first saw it.”

Reacting to the cancellation, influential Republicans like Donald Trump Jr. and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) expressed their criticism on social media over the weekend.

“We won’t be intimidated by the cancel culture,” Trump posted to X. “MTG will be in Orlando today. Get a copy of the book the left doesn’t want you to read!”

Gaetz emphasized that Greene, as a powerful voice in politics, deserves the opportunity to address the public if there’s an audience willing to hear her out.

“This cancel BS is absurd,” Gaetz posted to X. “[MTG] is a powerful voice in American Politics and Floridians deserve the right to hear what she has to say if they choose. I stand with MTG and I’m proud to see the #WinningTeam fighting back!”
